There's a lot of debate about how best to combat the opioid epidemic. Many on the front lines say harm reduction is the best way to take on the crisis. Harm reduction starts with the idea that drug use is a part of our world, and works to minimize its harmful effects. Volunteers at the Washington Heights Corner Project in New York City utilize the practice in their community work. That includes teaching people how to use Narcan to combat overdoses.
